# International Peatland Society (IPS)
> Official website of the International Peatland Society (IPS), a global non-profit NGO constituted in 1968 in Québec, Canada, and registered in Finland. IPS is the world's leading network of peat and peatland experts, bringing together scientists, NGOs, and businesses from around the world. It focuses on all aspects of peatlands in economy, environment, and society, with a mission of responsible management and Wise Use of peatlands and peat. IPS is supported by national committees and organises international conferences, publishes scientific knowledge, shares data, and provides facts and opinions for decision-making. The site is in English.

The International Peatland Society (IPS) is a global scientific and professional organisation for peat and peatland experts. Founded in 1968, IPS serves as a neutral international forum connecting scientists, policymakers, NGOs, and industry professionals. It publishes the peer-reviewed journal *Mires and Peat*, organises the International Peatland Congress, and promotes the concept of Wise Use and responsible management of peatlands balancing ecological, economic, and social values. World Peatlands Day is celebrated annually on 2 June, an initiative started by the IPS.
