Jyväskylä, Finland

World Peatlands Day is celebrated every year on 2 June to raise global awareness of peatlands and peat in all their aspects. Initiated by the International Peatland Society, the date marks the approval of the first IPS statutes and was chosen to allow outdoor activities and field events in many parts of the world.

The day highlights the importance of peatlands for climate, biodiversity and water, as well as the use of peat, restoration, research and responsible management. World Peatlands Day provides a global platform for sharing knowledge, experience and dialogue on peat and peatlands, bringing together science, policy and practice.
