Summary:

In North-eastern Germany large areas of degraded fen peatlands have recently been rewetted. Fully-automated classifica- tion of high-resolution satellite data enables mapping of the major dominant successional plant species. The newly established vegetation appears to store large quantities of nutrients and contributes to retention of nutrients mobilised from decomposition and peat soil degradation.
