Summary:
The degradation of peat swamp ecosystem for the development of dry land crops on a massive scale has disturbed the functions of peat swamp as hydrology buffering zone of the surrounding area leading to vulnerability to fires. Based on the restoration experiment that has been carried out since 2010, a better attempt has been made to restore the hydrological conditions as well as natural characteristic of peat swamps through water management improvements. This has been achieved by constructing canal blockings, to increase water level of the canal that allow lands at both side of the canal to get sufficient water for planting of suitable plants.
