International Peatland Conference 2026

From Peatland Agriculture to Post-Industrial Opportunity
Exploring Agriculture, Peatlands & Renewable Energy Transitions

Location: Midlands of Ireland

Hosted by the Irish Peatland Society (IrPS) – a leading non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting knowledge, collaboration, and sustainable peatland management – this landmark event will explore how peatlands can drive climate action, renewable energy, and rural regeneration.

It will take place in the midlands of Ireland where global experts, innovators, and policymakers will come together to help shape the future of peatlands in agriculture, energy, and sustainability.

Affiliated with the International Peatland Society (IPS), a global network spanning over 30 countries, the IrPS champions the Wise Use of Peatlands — bringing every perspective to the table for open dialogue, discovery, and innovation.

For more than two decades, the IrPS has delivered high-impact events connecting science, policy, and practice. Building on a series of successful study tours over the past three years across Ireland’s midlands and west — featuring over 20 pioneering sites dealing with this year’s theme — the 2026 conference will take this dialogue to a whole new level.

The goal of the conference is to to spark deeper understanding, inspire collaboration, and accelerate real-world transitions in how we manage peatlands — from agricultural use to renewable energy and beyond and thereby redefine the role of peatlands in a climate-resilient, carbon-neutral future.

Starting from Tullamore Co. Offaly each day, the format will include field trips to a number of peatland sites to experience the various peatland management practices at first hand, engage with the relevant subject matter experts at those sites and discuss the issues as they arise.

You are invited to Tullamore in June. So, save-the-date! And watch out for further details.
