9 Semptember 15:00 – 16:00 hrs EEST
Presenter: Dr Ilze Ozola, Latvia
Chair of IPS Commission Peatlands and Society
Most people know very little about peatlands—where they are, how they’re managed, or why they matter. This is true not only in Latvia, but around the world. While some may have walked along a boardwalk through a bog, few realize how widespread peatlands are or where and how peat extraction actually takes place.
A recent survey in Latvia showed that when people learn about peat extraction, they tend to view it more positively. And the more people understand peatland ecosystems, the less intimidating these landscapes feel—making visits more comfortable and enjoyable.
Dr Ozola will tell us more about the topic.
